Polito Space Networking Workshop
09 Oct 2025On October 9, 2025, the Polito Space Networking Workshop took place at the Maxwell Room of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications (DET), Politecnico di Torino.
The event was organized by Prof. Roberto Garello and Prof. Juan A. Fraire (UNC) within the framework of the EU-funded MISSION project, in collaboration with the University of Genoa, and with the support of Profs. Carla-Fabiana Chiasserini and Mario Marchese.
The workshop gathered researchers and students working on Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), fostering discussions on current challenges and future directions for satellite-terrestrial integration. The event attracted a large hybrid audience, including participants from the Master’s Programs in Communications Engineering and ICT for Smart Societies at Polito.
The program featured several excellent presentations, in order of appearance:
- Fabio Patrone (UniGe) – Space Cloud vs Terrestrial Cloud
- Camilo Rojas Milla (UniGe) – Edge Computing Orchestration in NTN
- Nour Badini (UniGe) – Smart Handover in NTN
- J. Fraire, N. Benso, B. Anamali (Polito/Inria) – Overview of ESA’s HANDING-OVER Project
- Paolo Giaccone (Polito) – Satellite Network Emulator
- Giovanni Giambene (Siena) – Latency Analysis for Satellite IoT in Remote Areas
- G. Maiolini Capez, J. Fraire (MSS/Inria) – Investigating Regional Satellite Constellation Design
The initiative successfully promoted collaboration across institutions and inspired new research ideas on NTN architectures, protocols, and system design.
A warm thank-you to all participants for their insightful contributions and to everyone who joined both onsite and remotely.
